From "Thickening the Plot" by Samuel Delany
Originally appeared in Those Who CanLater in The Jewel-Hinged JawDelany eschews the term "plot" for visualization. Write the "mind's sensory theater" in order to make clear what's going on. Look closer at your scenes and don't settle for the easily written.
Nicola Griffith adds to this concept. She calls this "Delanyizing" in his honor for teaching it to her. Basically, the author needs to get her events in order. She provides exercises to writers to attempt.
