"Song in a Minor Key" by C. L. Moore

First appeared in Scienti-Snap.  Reprinted by Hans Stefan Santesson and Karl Edward Wagner.  Online in multiple formats.  Audio.

Northwest Smith cogitates on his first murder and how it kept him from that one girl.  He lets it get to him at first, feeling the old emotion, but decides to put that away.

Minor (hence the title?).  This feels like a decent chapter pulled out of a novel, right before he has to perform a key event--get over the past to solve future problem.

Book cover actually belongs to the story "Shambleau".
